The aim of the Protocol is to establish the procedures of competent authorities of the Basque Autonomous Community in the field of animal food, livestock helath and the quality of agro-food products in the case of agro-food alter situations. This Protocol aims to coordinate the actions of the personnel involved in this work, in order to:
- Adopt the measures required in the primary sector to prevent agro-food products that might pose a risk for public health and the health of livestock, from entering the food chain.
- Adopt the measures required to tackle serious epizooties that affect Animal Health.
- Stop the distribution and sale of products processed, transformed or packaged in the Autonomous Basque Community, of animals that represent a health hazard for the public and/or livestock.
- Inform industry, consumers, authorities and other entities involved in the agro-food alert.
- Avoid any unnecessary social alarm that might cause harm to the production sectors of the food chain in the Basque Autonomous Community.
